What Is the Paris Motor Show?
The Paris Motor Show, known in France as the Mondial de l’Auto and often called the Paris Auto Show in North America, is one of the world’s longest-running motor shows. First staged in 1898, it now takes place every two years at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, bringing established European brands together with manufacturers from further afield.
Manufacturers use the show to unveil production models and concepts that explore where their ranges go next. Visitors can study cabin layouts, materials and proportions up close, while a dedicated test-drive centre lets them try selected models with advance booking.
Chinese manufacturers have brought fresh energy to the show in recent years, and François Roudier of the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers credits their arrival with reinvigorating motor shows. Stellantis led the European response, with six new models and nine concept cars across its brands.

1. Alfa Romeo Cuorerosso: A Design Manifesto
No reveal left a bigger impression on us than Alfa Romeo’s Cuorerosso.
Developed by Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile in Turin, the sculpted four-seat coupé explores how future Alfas can express the marque’s sporting character. Alfa Romeo calls it a design manifesto: rather than previewing one specific car, it sets the direction for the brand’s future models.
Alfa Romeo pairs the concept with a possible performance configuration: its 2.9-litre V6 with a full-hybrid system and Q4 all-wheel drive. Steer-by-wire, air suspension and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes complete the technical package, giving a first glimpse of how the next generation of Alfas could look and drive.
At a glance: Status: design concept; Expected: design to inform future Alfa Romeo models; four-seat coupé, proposed 2.9-litre V6 full-hybrid configuration with Q4 all-wheel drive, 0.28 drag coefficient, steer-by-wire, designed at Centro Stile in Turin
2. Alpine A310 Vision: Seventies Style, Electric Future
The A310 Vision brought some of the show’s most dramatic design to the Alpine stand.
The concept revisits the angular styling of Alpine’s seventies A310, with a low, wide body and distinctive “pop-down” headlights. Details such as its A-shaped wheels and split rear wing show how freely Alpine’s designers reinterpreted the original car.
The A310 Vision demonstrates the design freedom of the new Alpine Performance Platform, the architecture behind the brand’s next generation of electric sports cars. Alpine presents the A310 Vision as a one-off study of its heritage, and Auto Express singled it out as one of the stars of the show.
At a glance: Status: one-off concept; Expected: shown as a one-off design study; inspired by the 1970s A310, built on the Alpine Performance Platform, pop-down headlights and A-shaped wheels
3. Peugeot E-T16 Concept: A Rally Legend Reimagined
Peugeot’s E-T16 Concept turns one of rallying’s most famous cars into an electric performance project.
Inspired by the 205 T16 that won the World Rally Championship twice in the eighties, the concept combines wide bodywork, three electric motors and a hydraulic handbrake. Peugeot uses it to explore torque vectoring, battery cooling and its Hypersquare steer-by-wire controls, and links the concept to the next-generation E-208.
Peugeot confirms Michelin tyres for the E-T16, measuring 275 mm wide at the front and 315 mm at the rear, and show-floor reports identify them as Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres.
The E-T16 joins Renault’s 5 Turbo 3E as an electric hatchback inspired by a Group B icon. Renault plans a numbered run of 1,980 rear-wheel-drive 5 Turbo 3E models, with more than 500 bhp and deliveries from 2027. The E-T16 takes a more extreme approach as a concept, with three motors and all-wheel drive.
At a glance: Status: concept; Expected: technology and styling previewing the next E-208; claimed 805 bhp (816 PS, 600 kW), claimed 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, three electric motors, 85 kWh battery, Michelin tyres 275 mm wide at the front and 315 mm at the rear
4. Peugeot RCZ Vision: The Coupé Comes Back
Peugeot’s second headline concept revives the RCZ name.
The RCZ Vision explores Peugeot’s future approach to the coupé, keeping the original’s distinctive double-bubble roof and adding an all-electric powertrain. Inside, an experimental cabin pairs Hypersquare controls with transparent Micro LED displays.
Peugeot quotes 493 bhp (368 kW) and a claimed range of up to 600 km (373 miles), with a 10 to 80% charge in 10 minutes. The concept uses a 1,000-volt architecture and a solid-state battery developed with Factorial Energy, and CarExpert’s show images picture it on Goodyear Eagle tyres.
Together with the E-T16, it shows Peugeot exploring different ways to make electric cars appeal to enthusiasts. The familiar badge gives the project a clear link to the original RCZ, while its technology sets out ideas for the future.
At a glance: Status: concept; Expected: to be confirmed by Peugeot; electric coupé, 493 bhp (368 kW), claimed range of up to 600 km (373 miles), solid-state battery, double-bubble roof, Hypersquare controls
5. Renault 8 Gordini Concept: Gordini Spirit, Electric Power
Renault’s 8 Gordini Concept brought one of France’s most famous performance names to the Paris stand.
Revealed on 24 September 2026 and making its show appearance in Paris, the concept reimagines the 1964 original as a compact two-door coupé. A rear-mounted electric motor with around 267 bhp (199 kW) keeps the rear-wheel-drive layout that defined the original car.
Familiar details include a six-headlight layout, blue paint inspired by the original’s Bleu de France shade and the trademark Gordini white stripe. Renault describes the car as an exercise in style, and it will take its place in the Renault Collections museum in Flins when the museum opens to the public in 2028.
At a glance: Status: one-off concept; Expected: Renault Collections museum in Flins from 2028; two-door electric coupé, around 267 bhp (199 kW) from a rear-mounted motor, 4.12 metres long, six-headlight layout
6. Citroën 2CV Concept: A French Icon Returns
Citroën’s 2CV Concept became one of the most talked-about reveals of the show.
The electric concept draws on the original 2CV’s rounded silhouette and its focus on simple, affordable transport, adding a fabric roof and a colourful cabin. Citroën says it previews a European-built production model due within the next two years.
The concept rides on 18-inch steel wheels with Michelin tyres, their sidewalls carrying Michelin branding and Citroën’s chevron pattern. It uses Michelin’s universal tyre digital twin, which Michelin describes as a software-based virtual replica of the tyre. Using existing vehicle data, the system tracks pressure, wear, load and grip in real time.
Citroën says the system helps the car adapt to its environment. If the production car matches the concept’s price target, the 2CV could once again make motoring affordable for a new generation of drivers.
At a glance: Status: concept; Expected: production model in 2028; expected UK price of around £13,000 according to Auto Express, based on Citroën’s €15,000 target, 18-inch steel wheels, Michelin tyres with chevron sidewall
7. Smart #2: The City Two-Seater Returns
Smart’s new #2 made its world premiere in Paris, returning the brand to the compact two-seater format of the original fortwo.
Smart designed the fully electric production model around urban driving, with rear-wheel drive and a tight turning circle. Subject to final homologation, Smart targets a WLTP range of up to 180 miles.
Its arrival gives drivers a compact choice as much of the market moves towards larger models. Smart says the #2 will cost less than £20,000 in the UK, with pre-orders planned for spring 2027.
At a glance: Status: production; Expected: UK price under £20,000, pre-orders from spring 2027; world premiere, fully electric two-seater, rear-wheel drive, 35.8 kWh battery, 10 to 80% charge in 20 minutes, 305-litre boot, target WLTP range of up to 180 miles
8. Vauxhall STX Concept: The Estate Car Takes the Spotlight
The STX Concept put the estate car back at the centre of the conversation.
Revealed in Paris by Vauxhall’s sister brand Opel, its name stands for Sports Tourer eXperimental. Auto Express reports that the concept previews the next-generation Astra and is the first car to wear Vauxhall’s redesigned emblem.
Its sharp bodywork offers a fresh alternative to the many SUV-shaped concepts at the show. Production details will follow as the new Astra approaches launch.
At a glance: Status: concept; Expected: previews the next-generation Astra, according to Auto Express; world premiere, Sports Tourer eXperimental name, redesigned Vauxhall emblem
9. Volkswagen ID. Tiguan: A Familiar Name Goes Electric
Volkswagen’s ID. Tiguan brings one of its best-known names to its electric family SUV.
Revealed shortly before the show and making its public debut in Paris, it succeeds the ID.4 and ID.5 with redesigned bodywork and a new interior.
Volkswagen plans to launch it in early 2027 alongside the existing Tiguan with combustion and hybrid powertrains. Family buyers gain a straightforward choice of power under one established name.
At a glance: Status: production; Expected: launch in early 2027; public debut, successor to the ID.4 and ID.5, new interior
10. DS F3VER Concept: A New Direction for DS
The DS F3VER introduces a new design direction for the French brand in a compact electric concept.
Vertical lighting, an animated rear signature and Cosmic Blue paint that changes appearance with the light place personalisation at the centre of the project. DS explores ways to simplify construction too, including combined front lighting elements and one-piece bumpers.
Auto Express reports that the F3VER previews the next-generation DS No3 hatchback, and the concept measures 4.19 metres long. That gives buyers an early look at the brand’s next compact car, with everyday usability central to the design.
At a glance: Status: concept; Expected: previews the next DS No3, according to Auto Express; compact electric concept, 4.19 metres long, 400-litre boot according to DS, Cosmic Blue paint
Honourable Mentions
Several more reveals at Paris Motor Show 2026 deserve recognition alongside our top 10.
Fiat Multiplay Concept: Fiat’s Multiplay takes the Multipla’s flexible thinking further. A sliding rear module transforms the concept from a family vehicle into a four-seat pick-up with an open load bed. A “Petsenger” unit works as a pet space, table or storage area, and Fiat describes Multiplay as a laboratory for future ideas.
BYD Atto 8: BYD unveiled the Atto 8 as its new flagship electric SUV, with seating for up to seven and a 115 kWh battery. It brings BYD’s FLASH Charging to Europe, with a claimed 10 to 97% charge in nine minutes under the manufacturer’s stated conditions. The European launch is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
Renault E-Space Concept: Renault used Paris for the world premiere of the E-Space Concept, an electric reinvention of the family MPV. Wide U-shaped lighting and a floating illuminated Renault diamond define its design, and Auto Express picked it as one of its favourite cars from Paris.
Citroën 2CV Fourgonnette: Citroën brought a van version of its 2CV revival to the show. The Fourgonnette adds a compact, characterful option to the electric van market.
Vauxhall Corsa GSE: The new electric Corsa GSE brought hot hatch performance to the show, displayed on the stand of sister brand Opel. With 277 bhp (281 PS) and 0 to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds, it is the most powerful production Corsa yet, priced from £34,495, or £32,995 with the Electric Car Grant at the time of writing. Its press kit specifies Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres alongside Alcon brakes, and the Pilot Sport 4 S is a winner in the DriverReviews 2024/2025 Customer Choice Awards.
Other cars on display included the Audi A2 e-tron, Fiat Grizzly, DS No7 and the new electric Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, giving visitors a close look at models heading for showrooms.
Five Trends That Shaped Paris Motor Show 2026
Paris Motor Show 2026 revealed more than individual cars. These five themes ran through the show and point to where the industry is heading next.
Heritage Names Return with Electric Power
Classic badges led the show’s biggest stories. Citroën’s 2CV, Alpine’s A310, Peugeot’s 205 T16 and RCZ, and Renault’s Espace and 8 Gordini all returned in electric form, giving new technology a familiar face.
Small, Affordable EVs Take Centre Stage
Affordable city cars moved up the agenda. Auto Express expects the production 2CV to cost around £13,000 in the UK. The Smart #2 brings a compact electric two-seater to urban drivers, giving more people an affordable way into electric motoring. Leapmotor’s B03 and Dacia’s Spring added further compact electric choices.
Family Cars Beyond the SUV
Estates and MPVs enjoyed a revival. The Vauxhall STX, Renault E-Space and Fiat Multiplay each explore practical, space-focused alternatives to the SUV, giving families more ways to travel together.
Electric Performance with Character
Enthusiast cars embraced electric power. The Peugeot E-T16, RCZ Vision and Alpine A310 Vision pair electric platforms with driver-focused details such as hydraulic handbrakes, steer-by-wire controls and dramatic styling.
Chinese Brands Arrive in Record Numbers
Chinese manufacturers made their biggest-ever appearance in Paris, with a record of around 20 brands. BYD revealed its flagship Atto 8, Aion made its Paris debut and Changan launched its Nevo and Avatr brands in Europe. Together, they broaden the choice of electric and plug-in hybrid models for European buyers.
